MAY 14, 2014: Join Elianne Ramos as she interviews TX State Senator Leticia Van De Putte on G+

Latinas in politics

About a month ago, I held a G+ Hangout about the dismal numbers of Latinas serving in office/involved in politics, an issue we most certainly need to look into as a community. Part of the discussion lead to the fact that even if the numbers are not commensurate with the growth of the Latino population or the current number of Latinas in the country (see above), the few Latinas who are in those seats have managed to leave a mark in the political world. One such Latina is Texas State Senator Leticia Van De Putte. Mrs. Van De Putte rose to international prominence during the well-documented filibuster held by state Sen. Wendy Davis. Now the official Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Mrs. Van De Putte is a living example of the heights to which Latinas could rise given the chance.

To chat about this fact, the current political environment in Texas, the Latino vote, her experience as a Latina in politics and much more, I’ll be interviewing her this Wednesday at 7pm ET on Google+. Please Join us!
